Immortal Reborn: Alexandria's Choice (Children of Angels #2) by Natalie D. Wilson

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Immortal Reborn: Alexandria's Choice is the second book in the Children of Angels series. It follows Alex’s trials and tribulations as she decides to either become immortal and receive Arianna’s full powers and memories or to stay human. If she becomes immortal, she gives up the ability to have children and will be forced to watch her human family and friends grow old and die. However, if she stays human, she will be able to have children and will eventually grow old and die herself. While Alex tries to make her decision, her body struggles to survive the power flowing through it from Arianna’s spirit. As the time to choose gets closer, her body gets weaker and she must endure daily ice baths to keep her core temperature down. The immortals she’s come to love try to help her with her decision by giving her a glimpse of the good they do. They travel to India to visit with children that were rescued from the sex trade. They also visit a refugee camp in the Sudan and deliver supplies and help to heal the sick. Throughout her stay with the immortals, they show her love and loyalty. Gaius and Jack stick by her side.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked reading about Alexandria’s continued journey to be true to herself and not let Arianna’s spirit overwhelm her. I was impressed with the loyalty the immortals showed and how they encouraged working together. They could accomplish anything if they worked together. I did get a little discouraged by the length of the book. It seemed like Alex and Gaius were always sitting or sleeping in an ice bath, and they were always explaining events first to one group and then to another group of people so it seemed like certain events were being told more than once. Overall, if you liked the first book, you will enjoy continuing Alex’s journey, and you will definitely want to read the next book to find out who Alex ends up with, Jack or Gaius. I know I certainly want to know.

Crossroads by Megan Keith Blog Tour

SYNOPSIS

Nick is about to head overseas on an adventure of a lifetime. It’s what he has always wanted, to travel the world, to experience new cultures, see the places he’s dreamed of for so long. He should be over the moon. Instead, he’s been in a slump ever since he lost his friend Em.
Nick is a player, always has been. The first time he ever wanted more from a girl he was shot down. So now he’s left licking his wounds. Emma made her choice and now Nick has to live with it.
Or does he? When he finds out that Emma is single after all, will he fight for her? Will he be able to convince her to give him a chance? And if he does, what will happen when he leaves?
Nick has reached a crossroads in his life - the girl or the dream. Seems like an easy choice when the girl of his dreams is Emma. But what if she doesn’t see things the same way?

Excerpt:

“I can’t believe you talked me into this,” I complain for the umpteenth time as we line up outside the nightclub.
“Stop your whinging you owe me a night out, you both do,” Kat says beside me.
“How do you figure that?” Kat’s cousin April asks from my other side.
“You went clubbing without me last time!” she says, pretending to be upset.
“Well you were on your honeymoon!” I say dramatically rolling my eyes as we reach the bouncer at the door. We all show our IDs and he lets us through.
“That’s beside the point.” Kat pouts at me over her shoulder.
The music is loud as we enter the club. It’s dark and crowded. There is a faint blue tinge to the smoky room as the lights flash in time to the beat. We make our way to the bar and order our drinks. I scan the crowd while waiting for our order. My heart is thumping as the music vibrates through me, though it’s not the music creating the nervous energy around me. It’s Nick. I’m worried I might bump into him here. He loves to go clubbing and even though I’m not sure if this is a club he goes too, I can’t help but be reminded of the last time I went dancing.
“Will you relax?” Kat whisper-yells in my ear. “We are here to have fun! Just chill.”
“I’m trying,” I say as I grab my drink and change from the top of the bar.
We walk over to a tall table that doesn’t have any stools around it. It seems they have all been taken away to be occupied by people at other tables, which is frustrating as my shoes are already killing me. I don’t know how I let April talk me into wearing them. She really has the power of persuasion down to a fine art. I had bought these shoes on a whim, months ago, but had only worn them once before tossing them in the back of my wardrobe, now I remember why.
I look down at the strappy silver heels that are causing me grief, she is right though, they do look good and they do match the glittery black dress I’m wearing. It was also a spur of the moment purchase, but it was more recent, I bought it today, when Kat and I went shopping. I had tried the tired excuse of not having anything to wear, therefore being unable to go clubbing. But of course Kat only insisted on a shopping spree to fix the issue. I should have known that would happen. I’ve lost some weight this past couple of weeks and so I felt confident in the sexy little number, before I left the apartment that is. Now I’m here all I can think about is the possibility of seeing Nick, so all confidence has flown out the window. And the form-fitting and short dress I am wearing now feels way too revealing.
“You are a girl after my own heart!” April laughs, as I nervously finish off my drink way ahead of the other two. “Well if it helps you get out of this slump, I’m gonna buy you another. Same again ladies?” Kat and I both nod as April finishes off her drink and then heads back to the bar.
“You okay?” Kat asks, giving my arm a squeeze.
“Yeah.” I shrug my shoulders.
“I know it’s only been two weeks, but you are allowed to have fun you know? You deserve a little fun Em,” she says reassuringly. I force a smile her way. “For me?” she says in a whiny voice, batting her eyelashes at me, making my smile turn genuine.

“Okay.”

Finding Meara by Lara Schiffbauer review

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was action packed from the beginning. Hazel was kidnapped from her home by a creature with wings that called her Meara and taken to the home of Lucian in the Realm. The Realm is a kind of alternate reality, or parallel world, where there is no technology. Hazel escapes Lucian’s house with the help of a cat and makes her way through a forest to a cabin where she meets Arden. Even though they feel an instant chemistry, Arden helps her escape the Realm. Back in her own world, Hazel makes her way to her parents home with her best friend, Tavi. Once there, Hazel learns that she was adopted, and that Lucian is her birth father, Meara is her half-sister. Hazel also learns that Lucian plans to sacrifice Meara to retain his immortality. Then the race is on to find Meara and keep her safe from Lucian.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast-paced adventure and even had a bit of a love triangle. I found it fascinating the way the author created the Realm world and had the characters rushing between worlds. Hazel’s sidekicks, Tavi and the cat, were funny and supported Hazel unconditionally. The author showed a great amount of imagination in creating the Realm and all the different creatures. I was a little disappointed with the ending. It seemed rushed and left me with quite a few questions left. Overall, I would love to read more about these characters and this world.

Kasey Millstead’s bio:

* I'm 29 years old

* I've been married to my husband Troy for 10 years and together we have 4 children – Zach, Jovi, Demi & Cruz.

* I live in a small country town in NSW, Australia

* I love to read and write

* I love to bake

* I love socializing

* My friends laugh at me because I will talk to anyone, anywhere. It's funny now but it wasn't so funny for my mum when she had to drag me away from strange homeless people at the train station when I was little, and I may or may not have been going to go in crop dusting plane with a man I'd just met when I was about 4!!

* I read fiction until I was 11 years old. After that I read non-fiction, true crime, bios etc. When my son Jovi drowned in 2011, I found I couldn't bring myself to read non-fiction anymore – it was too "real." Fifty Shades was dominating the media so I got myself a copy and I'm not ashamed to say I read all three of those books at least ten times each. They allowed me to forget my reality for a little while. Then I decided that I was going to follow my dreams and write. I wanted to show my children that just because their brother died, didn't mean they did or our family did. I want them to reach for the stars and chase their dreams, and the best way to do that is to lead by example!

The Little Girl You Kiss Goodnight by John Tucker - Review

First I have to say this is a different genre than what I normally read. That being said it was still a fabulous book. This book takes place in the 80’s and in the south.

John had me guessing from the very beginning. Every time Steph got new evidence I was right there with her wondering if they could of done it or not. You met some funny characters, some questionable ones as well, oh and some that you want to smack upside the head and knock some sense into them.

The Little Girl You Kiss Goodnight is about Stephanie who set out on a mission to find her mother’s killer in a week. She stayed with her Granny and Uncle Thad, who lived in a small town in GA. Stephanie who liked to be called Steph wants to be a police officer; she is an intern in Atlanta. But in this small town from where her mom and dad are from things were a little different. The southern drawl was impressive. It was like I could actually hear these characters talking as if they were standing next to me. It seemed like everyone either liked her mom or hated her mom. Steph found out some things about her mom that she really didn’t want to know. She actually started to think she was going to be like her mom. I mean some of us ladies do say I want to be like my mom. But seriously if Sammie was my mom I sure wouldn’t want to be like her either. I grew up in the 80’s I was just a little kid so I can imagine if some of the scenario’s that were mentioned actually happened. For instance teenage pregnancy was big when I was a teenager. I don’t know if that was big in the 80’s or not. I liked this book. When I had to put it down I wondered who did it. I couldn’t wait to see what evidence Steph was going to find. Who she was going to finger for the crime. I loved the southern drawl it was great. I would recommend this book to my friends. I look forward to the next book. Thank you John for this great book.

Alluring Turmoil by Skye Turner review

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Alluring Turmoil is an amazing book. If you like rockstar romance you will love this book. Lexi and Jude are trying to restart their relationship after eight years apart. Lexi’s best friends, Bradi and Erik, will protect her and stay by her side no matter what. Can their relationship survive stardom and misunderstandings?

I really enjoyed reading this book. The writing flowed nicely and it was very easy to read. I was surprised to learn this is the authors first book. I felt all the emotions the characters felt throughout the book. I felt the heartache Lexi and Jude felt. I felt the unconditional love Bradi and Erik offered. This is the type of series I enjoy reading. Every book is about a different member of the band, Bayou Stix, and this book did have a happy ending.

Splits in the Skin by John Tucker review

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Ellis Hardigree is a bounty hunter on the trail of Moses Bailey, the leader of a religious community called New Eden, located outside of Tunnel Hill, Georgia. New Eden was founded by Bailey’s and only Bailey’s could live there. Well, you’re probably wondering how the community grew if it was only made up of Bailey’s. The Bailey’s followed the Old Testament and a letter their ancestors received from God. They believed that twins should marry each other and children as young as 11 should participate in the covenant (sex). They were also very protective of their community, going so far as to murder intruders.

I enjoyed this book. I found it fascinating to get the viewpoints of multiple characters, and to see the workings of a religious cult. How the Bailey's interpreted the "letter from God" amazed me, I certainly didn't get what they got out of it. I couldn’t believe how the residents of Tunnel Hill ignored the situation at New Eden and seemed to protect New Eden by warning away outsiders. Overall, this was another amazing story by John Tucker. You do need to have an open mind and, if you’re easily offended, this book is not for you. I’ll leave you with one last thought. It's only taboo because it's someone else, if they were your beliefs they wouldn't be taboo.

Blurb from The Lost Trucker:

“Ryder, I need to run upstairs really fast and use the little girls room. I will be back in two shakes of a monkey’s a**.” I move out of his hold on me physically and mentally. What is it about him? He said that there is something about me that is captivating, what about him? There is nothing captivating about me. He is making things up. Either way, I am not going to fall for those games, never again. I am not going to be fooled again.
I do my business and wash my hands then head back out the door to hopefully save whatever this thing tonight was going to be. “You ready now?” Ryder says as I walk back down the stairs. I walk over to the passenger side of the car and open the door.
“Yep.” I pop the P and sit my ass down in the car.
Layla owns a brand spanking new Ford Mustang; electric blue with racing strips down the middle and of course it is a drop top. The top is up this afternoon because it is starting to get cold at night here.
“Are you gonna be like this all night? I’m sorry okay. I didn’t mean to be mean and nasty like I was. But I won’t apologize for throwing you over my shoulder because if it's necessary again I will do it again, and over my knee next time too.” He says while focusing on the road as we whip out of the truck stop and start down the road for the next little town where there is an amazing dive bar.
“How do you know that I will even give you a chance after what you just pulled? That was some bull**** Ryder; some nasty f*** could have taken a picture to save in their spank bank for later. Ugh, I feel nasty now. I feel like one of those girls that wonders around the lot at night.” I shudder again at the thought and I grab my hand sanitizer just for good measure.
Ryder starts laughing so hard that I think he is going to crash the car and I grab a hold of the ‘oh shit’ handle. “You….you…oh…my…god…Babe! You’re nothing close to a ‘lot lizard’. That’s some funny sh** right there. Spank bank, huh? Can I have some pictures of you for mine??” He gets the biggest and sexiest smile on his face that I have ever seen. He looks me right in the eyes and all I can do is stare back at him. I have no idea how to answer him so I just focus on the song that’s playing on the radio; it’s Def Leppard – Pour Some Sugar On Me. I reach over and turn it up a little bit more and I can feel the bass pumping in the car and it makes me feel like it would be a good night to do some drinking and dancing. I need a good night out. “Do you know how to dance, Ryder?” I say to him will focusing out the front window.
“You bet your sweet a** I know how to dance baby.” He says as he reaches over and runs his finger down my arm. I instantly get goose bumps.
