My Review of Another way to Bleed

by Susan Harris

I have always heard of Cork in Ireland and now, although set in the future and looking bleak I would love to visit there.  Susan Harris took me to 2015 when Cassie was a teenager faced with her mother who wasn’t quite her mother and had to make a choice to live or die. Then we move on to 2020.
Archer is a character that I love the most in this book, he is straight up, and love the fact he calls Cassie Princess, I laugh every time.  I feel I connect better with him in the book.  He is so caring and really looks after Luka and Cassie and loyalty is a must.
What can I say about Luka, he is a warrior and taught Cassie most of what she knows.  He keeps things close to his chest apart from his jealous twang toward Cassie.  His love for Cassie is a reason you will be turning pages in Susan Harris’s book Another way to Bleed.
Cassie, Luka and Archer meet a queen! Cassie is looking for answers and needs to find them but they have to go somewhere dark in a place that can manipulate your minds desires or fears. Cassie comes out with liners such as “Who do you think I am, spider-freakin’-man?” and  “Didn’t you all migrate back to heaven or wherever?!
Another Way to Bleed is filled with interesting characters.  Cassie and Luka being the main characters and then you have Archer a fallen angel.  The character I find interesting is Connor he is the vampire in Luka’s night Club and he wants to taste Cassie’s blood.  Bruno is the Lycan bouncer of the club and tends to flirt with Cassie much to Luka’s dismay and the Lileth!! I hate her with a vengeance.
 QUOTES
*”So, Archie…. Come on… show me your wings!"
*”Helena told me something about you many years ago, before you were born, and I’m intrigued to see how it all works out”
*Rumour has it that you taste like heaven… little tiny drops of gold on your tongue”
*”It’s very hard to want to hit you, in case I bruise that Calvin Klein face of yours!”

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to everyone. I was so engrossed I couldn’t put it down.

Cover Reveal: The Singing River by R.K. Ryals

Hey, everyone! We're super excited about this one! Today we have the COVER REVEAL for The Singing River by R.K. Ryals!!!

Expected Release Date – August 4, 2013
NA Contemporary
By R.K. Ryals
Cover Design By Regina Wamba of Mae I Design and Photography

Synopsis:
In Mississippi, there's a legend about a Singing River, a tragic love story that ended with an entire Indian tribe singing a death chant as they marched stoically into the Pascagoula River to die ...

At eighteen, Haven Ambrose isn't just a high school graduate. In her head, she's an aspiring writer, a traveler, a chef, a slayer of injustice, an astronomer, an archaeologist, and the love child of a famous, rich musician. But reality is harsher. Reality is overdue bills, a crumbling trailer, an absent father, an old addiction, and a hot, crushing summer that may end in disappointment.

For twenty year-old River Brayden, life seems good, but appearances can be deceiving. The oldest son of a wealthy family, he has finished his first year at Harvard to return home for the summer only to discover his younger brother headed down an unforgiving road.

They will be drawn together by a song. For during the late summer, they say the Pascagoula death chant can still be heard near the Singing River. Its call is haunting, its chant a testament of love and sacrifice. It calls to some ... beckoning.

Excerpt:
I stepped toward her. “You have a way of making people relate to you.”
She snorted. “I doubt that.”
I was in front of her now, my face peering down into hers. “Really, you do. A few hours of knowing you feels like days.”
“Sounds tiresome,” she teased.
“It’s a gift,” I countered.
There were sudden lines in her forehead, a troubled look in her eye. “Some might call it a curse,” she murmured. “By the end of this trip, you’ll want me gone.”
It was my turn to frown, my gaze studying her face. She had green eyes so dark they could be mistaken for brown and lashes so long they almost touched her brows. True, she was more willowy than curvy, but she was beautiful in an understated, elegant kind of way. The faint freckles on the bridge of her nose drove me crazy.
“Why do you think that?” I asked.
There was something stark and open about her eyes when she answered, “Because I am better at being abandoned than I am at keeping people.”

Today Only by Derinda Love

Saturday 6th July 2013

REVIEW:- Today Only
by Derinda Love

The surroundings of Maine sound wonderful and a place I have never been to before but is now on my "to visit" list. Author Derinda Love took me to the Kennebec River, and wow what a river. This is where Rye met Jet, and they recall knowing each other at school.

One of the reasons why I loved this book was because of Rye, her strengths, her weaknesses, love and understanding. She makes me feel I have gone through her motions throughout Today Only.

Em is Rye's daughter and throughout this book has strength beyond what I can comprehend a child to have. She touches the hearts of everyone and not in an annoying `favorite' way. She has wisdom I wish some grown-ups could have! The strength in the family is a page turner.
The love Em has for her mother is unique and very special. She took her mum to do a run with her and was proud to, which is what all families should be like. She goes for ice cream like children aged Ten do. She calls her mum "mama" and I like the innocence of that.
Today Only has a strong family connection of characters like Rye's mother ...... and Jet's father Madison. It is a family strength I wish I had 10% of but to no such luck.
Whilst all of her characters are very important in the book and all have a role in Rye's future, Rye herself is the main focus in the book. It is told through Rye and Jet's point of view and they both sing from the same hymn sheet when it comes to their feelings and shows a united front in that them being soul-mates.
The biggest theme of Today Only is Rye's illness and her strength to carry on and make sure her life is not dictated to by an hour glass. We all have the hourglass whether it being late for an appointment, an over run meeting at work. The book makes those feel non-existent when it is a life.
We all have ways of coping with such heartache of a loss of a puppy and we all cope if we know something bad has happened in all different ways. Derinda takes us through the eyes of a child in her closet, and her release. Absolutely touching and breath taking.
I absolutely loved reading this book and am honored to write a review. I would give this book nothing less than 5 stars, but, I did spend more money on tissues than I did the book! This is a budding author and I have a feeling we shall be seeing more of Derinda Love. Congratulations on a fantastic book.  I give it a total 5 hearts!

 Excerpt

Rye
My time here is dwindling. Everything around me – my body, the transition from winter to spring, the height chart marking the growth of my daughter, Emily – reminds me that the hourglass that is my life has only a few grains of sand left.
It’s my first thought this morning. I awoke early for a fundraiser, the Big Walk for March of Dimes. I start off with my daily routine. I jump in the shower, trying not to notice how much the droplets of water hurt my skin. The sting is too much this morning. I get out quickly, dry off and throw my hair in a simple ponytail at the base of my neck. I catch my reflection in the mirror and stare at myself for a minute.
Just a little longer? So I can watch Em grow up?
My mirror doesn’t have an answer for me.
“Come on, Em!” I call to my daughter. “Get your shoes on, before we’re late.”
I turn away from the mirror, then hurry into the living room and grab Emily by the hand.
“You ready Em?” I ask. Whatever dread or fear I feel in front of my mirror fades at the sight of Em’s beautiful blue eyes.
She looks up at me with the biggest smile, and exclaims, “Yes!”
We hop in the car and head towards the Walk. My daughter’s eyes are glowing.
“Mama, this is going to be the best walk ever,” she almost squeals in excitement. The innocence of my little angel never fails to humble me.
She doesn’t yet understand that this might be my last Walk with her.
“Yes, honey, this is going to be the best walk ever,” I agree.
