PROMO & Guest Post: From Hel With Love by Blue Remy

Guest Post by Blue Remy, author of From Hel With Love

My Writing Process

I have a very … shall we call it … quirky writing process.  I don’t have any other way to explain it. My hubby says I’m ADD, I’m OCD and have a problem with organization. I have organized chaos. He says it’s a mess. I beg to differ. When you step into my area, I KNOW where everything is, it has its proper spot. It just might not be in your ideal spot.
Anyway, back to the ADD slash OCD. I have a small notebook that I carry around with me, 24/7. I do a detailed outline in this notebook of the current book that I am writing. I may have paragraphs, I may have just a few words here and there. Almost shorthand, I guess?  If I have a particular conversation going on that I want to remember, I will write that out to the ‘T’.
If I get idea’s I can grab out the book and jot them down, and while I’m doing research, I will write it down in the book as well. I have scratched out a ton of idea’s and wrote over others.
Once the book is what I have key termed “penned out”, I will sit down at the computer and actually type it out. This is where it gets difficult for me. Outlines are already hard to follow, but my books tend to write themselves. I may start in one spot and have the goal to reach point B, but the characters may not like it and push me to point C. That has happened more often than not.
When I write, I have to have horror movies playing. Part of it, is that my writing is raw and gritty, and partly because I am a horror movie Queen. It helps to just have that comforting noise in the background. I also must have a pot of coffee on and a cup in front of me. It helps keep the creative juices flowing. If I get stuck, I walk away and beg my husband for a ride on the Harley. It tends to clear my brain of whatever mud is in there, which is usually a character talking to me, but I can’t clearly hear it.
I write from beginning to end. It is hard for me to skip over a chapter or skip a scene because I’m not feeling it.  My OCD is an ass like that. Plus, you will never see an odd number of Chapters. I will add an extra if I have too. I cannot end in an odd number.
Once it’s all typed out, comes the celebratory shot. The book is done. It’s party time! (Then again after edits!)
I’m weird, we all know this, but I don’t write much different than the next, or have some outrageous process. Pretty simple in the end.
