Currently Reading: Glimpse (Zellie Wells #1) by Stacey Wallace Benefiel

This book is currently FREE from Amazon for the Kindle! See below for a direct link!

Book Synopsis:

Zellie Wells has a devastating crush on Avery Adams, the son of her mom’s high school sweetheart. At her sixteenth birthday party, held in the basement of her dad’s church, she finally finds the courage to talk to him. Turns out, the devastating crush is mutual.

As Avery takes her hand and leads her out onto the makeshift dance floor, Zellie is overwhelmed by her first vision of his death; shocking because not only are they both covered in his blood, but they’re old, like thirty-five, and she is pregnant.

Afraid to tell anyone about the vision, (she’d just be labeled a freaky black magic witch, right?) Zellie keeps the knowledge of Avery’s future to herself and tries to act like any other teenager in love. When they get caught on their way to a secret rendezvous by her mom and his dad, they are forbidden to see each other.

Convinced that their parents are freaking out unnecessarily, Avery and Zellie vow to be together no matter what. They continue their relationship in secret until Zellie learns that their parents are just trying to prevent her and Avery from suffering like they did. The visions are hereditary, they’re dangerous, and if they stay together the visions will come true.

Now Zellie must choose between severing all ties with Avery, like her mom did to prevent his father’s death, and finding a way to change Avery’s future.

Review: Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Nora Grey is responsible and smart and not inclined to be reckless. Her first mistake was falling for Patch.
Patch has made countless mistakes and has a past that could be called anything but harmless. The best thing he ever did was fall for Nora.
After getting paired together in biology, all Nora wants to do is stay away from Patch, but he always seems to be two steps ahead of her. She can feel his eyes on her even when he is nowhere around. She feels him nearby even when she is alone in her bedroom. And when her attraction can be denied no longer, she learns the secret about who Patch is and what led him to her, as well as the dark path he is about to lead her down. Despite all the questions she has about his past, in the end, there may be only one question they can ask each other: How far are you willing to fall?.

Nora is a good girl, trusted by her mother to be home alone a lot, gets good grades. Overall, she's every parent's dream. Her best friend, Vee, seemed to be the exact opposite. Obsessed with boys, a liar, seemed to humiliate/anger Nora often, and definitely had a flair for the dramatic. Vee was not exactly the kind of friend I'd want to have. When Nora forced to work with Patch, the mysterious new kid in school, she is weary of him and doesn't trust him at all. Patch was, at first, made to seem stalkerish... creepy. He knew exactly how to push all of Nora's buttons. I'll admit, he grew on me after a while. Even when he started to seem like a decent guy (to me), Nora still didn't trust him and even accused him of some rather horrible thing. While she knew there was something off about Patch, and she continued to think he was capable of these horrible things, she was trying hard to fight her strengthening attraction to him. I didn't quite get how she could seem to not like him so much, think he is capable of horrible things, and not trust him, all while starting to fall for him. Admittedly, though, I fell for Patch too! Even before Nora did. :) He started to seem less creepy and more hot and edgey. By the end, I was in love! There were some surprise twists in the story and there were parts that definitely had me laughing out loud.

Overall, I rate this book with 4 stars. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone!

Help Share the <3 with author Kristie Cook and Tristan!

Did Tuesday's tease have you wondering what "Share the <3" is? Have you seen the #TristanK3 hashtag on Twitter and buzz on Facebook and wondering what's going on? The scoop is finally here!

Let's take a step back for a minute. You may or may not remember last January when I made a pledge to donate $500 to The National Domestic Violence Hotline if any of my books made it (again) to the Top 100 All Kindle Paid titles list. You more likely do remember that just a couple weeks ago I announced that I was getting close to selling my 100,000th book and I'd be celebrating in some way or another. And if you've read Promise, you surely remember that Tristan wanted to teach a certain wife-beater a lesson.

Well, I'm rolling it all into one for something super-cool that I hope you'll help with. Rather than waiting to hit the Top 100 list again, I'm going to donate that $500 to The Hotline when I've sold my 100,000th book. Sometime this month I'll be clicking that donation button. But I'd love to make it more than $500 and this is where you can help. For every 1,000 books sold past the 100,000 mark, up until July 30, 2012, I'll donate another $100.*

Having direct experience with domestic violence in my family, this cause is near and dear to my heart. I've heard the stories from my grandmother who left an abuser in a day when women did not leave their husbands, regardless of the reason. I've seen the bruises and injuries on loved ones whose hearts fell for the wrong person. Fortunately, most were able to pull themselves out. But not all. In fact, one person close to me died before she could get out.

Not everyone can escape these situations easily. Not everyone knows how to leave with children and lives intact. Not everyone has family or friends close enough to run to. But with The Hotline, they do have a support network. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated, not just by me, but by those whose only hope is this one phone number that could save their lives.
So what can you do? Share the <3! How? Well, you can...
  • Buy a bookof course, if you haven't read the Soul Savers Series. Remember, Promise and Genesis are only 99c but these purchases are going to a great cause. (And be sure to keep your receipt - see below for why.)
  • Gift any of the Soul Savers books to someone you think would enjoy the series (again, keep your receipt - see below). All the retailers offer an ebook gifting program.
  • Encourage friends to buy any of the Soul Savers books between now and July 30, 2012 (again, see below for a bonus if they do).
  • Tweet, blog, Facebook and otherwise spread the word about the Soul Savers Series, the Share the <3 campaign and/or The Hotline (use #TristanK3 hashtag - I'll be checking these out and jumping in as often as possible, maybe even with goodies).
To add to the fun, I have presents!
  • Email me** a receipt for any of my books with the purchase date between today and July 30, 2012, and you'll be entered to win weekly giveaways of signed books by me and various author-friends who have so generously donated, as well as to win a grand prize at the end (specific prizes TBD). Gift receipts count!
  • For everyone who makes a donation to The Hotline for $5 or more and emails me** a receipt and their shipping address, I'll send you a 4-pack of Soul Savers bookmarks. For the first 25, I'll also throw in a Soul Savers can-coozie.
I'd love to see this campaign go viral to help raise awareness and funds to support The Hotline so more women and children can feel safe, something most of us take for granted. Will you please help?

*Up to a total of $2,000. Examples: If, by July 30th, I've sold 105,000 books, I'll donate an extra $500 for a total of $1,000. If I'm at 110,000 books sold, that's another $500 I'll donate, for a total of $1,500. If I'm at 115,000+ books by July 30, I'll donate $2,000!!!

'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' To Light Up IMAX Screens

It looks like the second book in the Hunger Games Trilogy, Catching Fire, will have it's movie released November 2013. While this film won't be filmed in 3D, it will be filled in IMAX! See below for the full article by MTV News:

It shouldn't come as a surprise that for the second film in the "Hunger Games" series, new director Francis Lawrence wants to make "Catching Fire" even bigger than its predecessor. And now we know exactly how big Katniss, Peeta, and Gale will be in the sequel: 70 feet tall.
According to an announcement from Lionsgate, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" will feature sequences shot in the IMAX format when it opens in theaters in November of next year. Lionsgate digitally remastered the first "Hunger Games" film for the IMAX format, but this will be the first time in the series that sequences will actually be shot in the much larger format. The IMAX showings for "The Hunger Games" greatly contributed to that film's huge box-office presence, which is nearing the $650 million mark in global ticket sales, thanks in part to higher ticket prices, and should remain a factor when the movie opens in China later this month."The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" will only be the sixth major studio release to be partially shot in IMAX. Christopher Nolan began the trend when he shot roughly a half an hour of his Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" on 70mm IMAX film. The follow-up to that film, "The Dark Knight Rises," is said to contain close to an hour of IMAX footage. Most recently, Brad Bird filmed key action set pieces for "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" in the larger format.

Books to Movies

Lately there are a lot of books/series being made into movies and TV shows. The first ones that spring to mind are The Hunger Games movie, Game of Thrones, Vampire Diaries,  and of course the Sookie Stackhouse series (True Blood).

If it were up to you, which book or series would you choose to make into a movie or TV show and why?

Favorites?

Every once in a while there is a book, or a book series, that changes you. Maybe it inspires you... maybe it just makes you think. As Beth reads the Soul Savers series for the first time, and I re-read it along with her for the third time, I started to wonder. What are your favorites?

Your favorite genre?
Your favorite book/series?
Your favorite author?

For me, I think my favorite genre is definitely paranormal/fantasy. Whether it's young adult or adult, doesn't really seem to matter. :) Favorite book/series include the Wings series by Aprilynne Pike, the Soul Savers series by Kristie Cook, and the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. Favorite authors are Ian Fydell (author of the Exodus Trilogy), Kristie Cook, and Aprilynne Pike.

Reply here and let us know what your favorites include!

Excerpt from Promise (Book 1 of the Soul Savers series):
"I've been waiting for you for a very long time."
It's like he keeps finding me... but why would he want to? Not that it bothered me. It should have, but it didn't. He made me feel... good. Despite the mind-nudge.
"If that's the case then I should turn you in for stalking me." I replied dryly as Tristan dropped his bag on the table and took the seat next to me.
"Hmm, let's consider this. You show up in my communications class, then in my women's studies class that I decide to pickup and have no idea which one you're taking, and now you're right here where I need to be in thirty minutes.  could turn you in for stalking."
Of course, he was just teasing, but my face reddened anyway.
"I wouldn't, though, turn you in, I mean. You can stalk me anytime." He grinned. I blushed harder. Mr Beautiful is flirting with me.
